Melrose is known by the English to be the ‘Cotswolds of the North’ with its beautifully restored ancient stone architecture. Sir Walter Scott’s home, the stately Abbotsford House, is a wonderful place to visit, steeped in history with a breath taking library and beautiful surrounding grounds.
Living in Melrose

Kelso Home Search
This pretty country town was once described by Sir Walter Scott, who went to school in Kelso, as ‘the most romantic town in Scotland’, and few would dispute this with its charming cobbled marketplace, Kelso Square, which is known to be one of the largest historical marketplace’s in Scotland.
Kelso lies where the River Tweed and the River Teviot unite, and one of its key landmarks are the three bridges, one of which was a smaller model for the Waterloo Bridge built by John Rennie. Kelso was built alongside the spectacular Kelso Abbey, whose ruins are a fine example of one of the most impressive monastic houses of the 12th century.
Living in Kelso
A picturesque river walk leads from Kelso to the nearby Floors Castle, the largest castle in Scotland to still be inhabited and is currently home to the 10th Duke of Roxburgh. There is a spectacular walled garden in the grounds and cycle paths surrounding the castle offer a fine day out.
The ancient market square continues to be the hub of the town, with plenty of quaint independent shops and eateries. Rutherford’s Micropub is the first of its kind in Scotland and delicious cream teas can be had at The Cream Chimneys café. Kelso Races are a must do for the dairy as is the Border Union Agricultural Show.
There are several local primary and secondary schools in the area and a couple of private schools which are within easy reach. The nearest train stations are Tweedbank and Berwick-Upon-Tweed for direct connections to Edinburgh and London.

The royal burgh of Peebles is a town in the Scottish Borders that should be a top choice for buyers due to its gorgeous location on the River Tweed, glorious hilly surroundings and its convenient proximity to Edinburgh.

Living in Peebles
Along with fishing on the Tweed, there are all sorts of activities for residents of Peebles, including gorgeous walks through the town or surrounding countryside, mountain biking to get the pulse racing and playing golf at Peebles Golf Course.
Peebles is renowned for its unique retail opportunities and has been ranked as the Top Independent Retailing Town in Scotland. Plenty of charming shops adorn the high street along with a number of delicious restaurants such as Coltman’s Delicatessen & Kitchen.
Just outside Peebles is the imposing Traquair House which is renowned to be Scotland’s oldest inhabited house visited by royal monarchs since the 12th century. It offers a gorgeous day out exploring the house, grounds and woodlands.
Peebles High School is a well reputed state school amongst others in the area. Peebles is best accessed by car and is just under an hour from Edinburgh.
